Since swine flu has been confirmed in the East Valley where I live, I wanted to get out today before it gets any worse and get my errands and shopping done. So after I went to the bank and UPS, I did some shopping. This is what I purchased:
CVS:
1 Natural Dentist Mouth Rinse - $ 6.99 - Used $2./1 IP cpn= $ 4.99
Used $ 2.00 in ECB's
Total OOP was $ 2.99 and I received a $ 4.00 ECB and will send for the $10.00 Rebate now that I have purchased two.
Safeway:
1 Keebler Fudge Shoppe Grahams - $ 1.00 - Used $ .55/1 IP cpn dbled = Free
Total OOP was $ .00!
Bashas:
1 Whole Beef Tenderloin(8.25 lbs) - on sale for $4.97 a lb. = $ 41.00
1 Bakery Crusty Bread - Used Bashas Cpn = Free
Used $ 5./25 Bashas Cpn
Total OOP was $ 36.00!
SuperWalmart:
8 Evercare Trial Size Lint Rollers - $ .97 each - Used $ 1./1 IP cpns = Made $ .03 on each
1- 18 ct. Eggs - $ 2.00
Total OOP was $ 2.38 including $ .62 tax!
ANALYSIS: I am overbudget this month but I don't care since the tenderloins were such a good price, so I bought another one. I needed one more Natural Dentist to send for the rebate and this is the best mouth rinse I have ever used. The cookies and bread were free. The lint rollers were a moneymaker and the eggs were needed!

Great shopping as usual. I am a little concerned about the swine flu comment. When did you hear it was confirmed in E. Valley and do you know where exactly? I really am starting to worry about sending kids to school.
Hi Jodi,
The Health Dept. Spokesperson from the State of AZ was on Channel 12 about 1pm. They have confirmed cases in the East Valley. They are notifying parents of the school now and when they have all been notified, they will release the name of the school later this afternoon.
Hi Jodi,
The two schools in the East Valley are in the Chandler School District. The server that my regular e-mail is off of is down till my son can get it connected in NY over the weekend. So use this forum if you have a question.
hi! i recently stumbled onto your blog and am blown away by all of the simple ways you save money. i too, try to do my part to save, but you put me to shame :) Could you tell me how you got your dh to comply? mine is down with my coupon shopping, but i would love to implement other money saving ways into our routine, but can't seem to get him on board!
Hi The "N" Family,
Welcome to my blog! My DH has always been pretty amenable to what ever I wanted to do. When I handled the shopping and had a budget of $20. a week for groceries back in 1967, I would plan our menus using very frugal recipes and bank what I didn't spend. It wasn't long before I had saved up enough to buy 4 dining room chairs and a table. He became a believer of my shopping and cooking skills way back then. We always had certain amounts budgeted for certain things way back then. DH came from a frugal family. His Mom could make a buck stretch like you wouldn't believe! I learned a lot from her. All these years as long as I shopped and made things that he would eat I haven't had a problem. We always had savings accounts from day one. DH has always been a do it yourselfer also. We have always had the same values and goals. I think with some men, you have to prove that it works. I have heard from lots of different people over the years, that saving little bits doesn't matter. That statement makes me cringe because if you take care of the little things then you will take care of the big things. We had a goal from the first day of our marriage to be retired early and we stuck to it. It was very important to DH because his Dad died young and never saw retirement. We made it and are enjoying every day.
You did great at Safeway. I went to Walmart yesterday and they had all of the disinfectant products right by the door and the prices we jacked up. Of course!
Hi SonyaAnn,
There is a lot of price gouging going on right now by lots of companies. I ordered surgical masks last Friday knowing full well that there would be a run on them. I paid $18.00 including shipping for 50. Now if you can find them, they are $59. for less. Just ridiculous!
Precious,
great job! I like the healthy dentist mouthwash too, but hubby hates it, so I gotta pass it on :o(
I'm surprised at the price gouging in your area! They really are putting too much emphasis on this in the media.
Hi amiyrah,
The price gouging that I have seen has been online. I think SonyaAnn is in Illinois.
We have a # of confirmed cases here and lots of school kids sick and their tests are at the CDC. We have a # of school closings.
But you are correct that the Cable News Media is blowing things out of proportion. We just all have to wash alot and use a mask if you get sick and have other family members around.
The biggest problem here is people are panicked and clogging the emergency rooms because they think they might be sick. This takes away care from people who really need it.
They also told us on TV last night that Doctors and their families are purchasing all the Tamiflu that comes in - in case they get sick, so shelves are empty and people who really need it can't get it. One man was on TV who had 2children - one with 102 fever and one with 103 fever. He went to 28 pharmacies before he could get their Tamiflu prescription filled. I felt so bad for him!
