Every year for 42 years, DH has made this party mix for Christmas. His mother always made it for their family. I panicked two weeks ago when I realized that my recipe box had gone to storage.
We started asking family members to give us the recipe. Finally, thanks to my SIL this weekend, we got it. So DH made this big pot last night.
I am giving you the recipe so that it will be on my blog and I won't lose it again.
Party Mix
1 Box of Wheat Chex
1 Box of Rice Chex
1 Box of Cheerios
1 bag of Thin Pretzel Sticks
3 lbs. of Mixed Nuts ( We prefer the ones without peanuts)
The sauce: 2 cups of oil
2 T. Worcestershire Sauce
1 Tbsp. Salt
1 and 1/2 Tbsp. of garlic salt
DH makes about 1 and 1/2 times the sauce and blends it all together with our immersion blender. Then he pours it over the other ingredients and stirs well.
Bake it at 250 for 2 hours. The first hour you just let it bake with the cover on. Then the second hour, you uncover it, and stir it every 10 minutes. I use a big canning kettle for this. We also adjust the salt to our own tastes sometimes only using the garlic salt. I buy the smallest boxes of cereal (10-14 oz.) but you could use larger and then just make as much sauce as you think you need.
